About the Centre

The Moosonee Native Friendship Centre (MNFC) was incorporated on January 14, 1982 and became a member of the Ontario Federation of Indian Friendship Centres (OFIFC) on October 30, 1982. Its founding directors are: Norman Fredrick Wesley, Gloria Bernice Reuben, and Betty Ann Whiskaychan.

The MNFC, is located in a semi-isolated community across from Moose Factory Reserve and accessible only by rail or air, has grown over the years to meet community needs. There are no major industries with the exception of the public sector so the needs of the members are high with little resources to meet said needs.

The MNFC is counted on for everything from feeding the impoverished to supporting families in need, to providing children after school activities in a safe environment.

The MNFC is working on building a new facility to accommodate the growth of the Centre's programs and services. The Centre anticipates moving into their new facility in the next year.

The mission of the MNFC is to serve the Aboriginal population of Moosonee through the seven stages of life by providing needed resources to assist them in establishing a better quality of life, spiritually, culturally, socially, and economically.
