PROGRAM OBJECTIVES

• To ensure access to all native people in Ontario, regardless of their status receive the best available legal and justice related services prior to, during and following a court appearance and to maintain the effectiveness of those services
• To reduce the sense of alienation experienced by Native persons who are in conflict with the law and to bridge the cultural and linguistic gap between Native people and the justice system
• Essentially, Native Courtworkers are available to assist Native persons accused of crimes in understanding the court process and to help the courts appreciate the perspective of the Native accused.
