Volume 1, Summer 2003

The United Native Friendship Centre was incorporated in 1973 and relocated to its new facility in Fort France, Ontario in 1991. The Friendship Centre is dedicated to enhancing the lives of Native and non-Native people in the community and surrounding area.

Although the OFIFC-GREAT Initiative is a relatively new idea in the area of employment and training, the partners, as individual entities, are not. The unique partnership between an off-reserve and an on-reserve organization proposed the best method to develop, implement, and administer the Urban Component of the Aboriginal Human Resource Development Strategy.

The current Aboriginal Human Resource Development Agreements (AHRDA) will conclude in March of 2004, and three national forums have been held to date to develop a case for renewal. The ‘Bringing M.I.N.D.S. Together’ conference allowed urban AHRDA holders to discuss the needs of urban Aboriginal clients from a service delivery perspective.

What’s new with the O-GI community.
