Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder Programme

Goals & Objectives

The FASD Programme is designed to assist with FASD Resources available to urban Aboriginal people. It offers both the traditional and contemporary approaches to FASD on-site training and consultations. The programme provides intervention, prevention, and programming including community development related to FASD.

Programme Summary

The FASD Programme has been involved in bringing awareness of Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder and its affects on the Aboriginal community as both an advocate and service provider for ten years. The OFIFC had the pleasure of being the Host Agency for the Aboriginal Fetal Alcohol Canadian Expertise (FACE) Research and Community Roundtable on September 08 2009, its first year organizing the event.

Focus on Success

Over 200 toolkits were delivered in early August 2009 to Friendship Centre communities to help them prepare and plan for International FASD Day. The FASD Tool kits for 2009 consisted of promotional t-shirts, cups, posters and FASD Magazines. A newsletter was also developed and the OFIFC received over 30 thank you notes and stories on successful events that took place in Ontario.

Development

Field visits are conducted by the FASD Policy Analyst, whom also is responsible for the Programme Achievement Reports. One Regional Workshop occurs on an annual basis. Several programme integration activities occur amongst the FASD programme and other OFIFC programmes. A number of outreach and networking also takes place on behalf of the FASD Policy Analyst.
