Programme Summary

After an initial partnership with the White Ribbon campaign in the spring of 2005, the OFIFC has led the way for the first culturally relevant OFIFC Aboriginal initiative to encourage and challenge men and boys to actively speak out against all forms of violence against women and to foster healthy relationships. Kizhaay Anishinaabe Niin, which in English translates to "I am a Kind Man", is now a stand alone project.

Focus on Success

"Our very first session was good. The participants were from the Friendship Centre Alternative School. We delivered a full day of learning about the Seven Grandfather Teachings and how to incorporate them into our life. Some of the students were not paying much attention until we introduced the teaching of Love and the reflection activity. This is where they began to open up. One of the youth needed a time out because he was feeling connected to his feeling around what he loved and lost. He appeared to understand where some of his anger came from because of this loss. He eventually apologized to a teacher's assistant for calling her a derogatory name."

Development

To continue to advocate for full time Kizhaay Anishinaabe Niin workers to be located in all Friendship Centres.

Delivery Sites

There are currently eighty Kizhaay Anishinaabe Niin facilitators located across the province.
